The Project

 

Our Project brief was to design and build a War Memorial in the Memorial Gardens at Ramsbottom.
The memorial to bear the names of Armed Service and Merchant Service Personnel from the Ramsbottom Urban District who have given their lives since the start of WW1.


Research since August 2011 revealed over hundreds of possible names and as such there was insufficient room for them on the existing Towns Cenotaph  Memorial.


Our mission over the following decade was to fundraise, design and then build a War Memorial on which we could have these names engraved.

 

By having such a memorial we will be recording, for posterity, a permanent visible and tangible record of the names of those Armed Service and Merchant Service Personnel from Ramsbottom Urban District, who gave their lives for their Country since the start of WW1 through to WW2 and also any future conflicts. The memorial will form an integral part of Remembrance events.

 Our mission was completed with a dedication ceremony of the new memorials on May 7th 2022

This project and website will provide the only comprehensive listing of the war dead of Ramsbottom Urban District.
